77th Independence Day: PM Modi pays tribute to lives lost in partition

To mark the Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid homage to the “Indians who sacrificed their lives during the country’s partition.” He reflected on “the suffering and struggle of those who had to bear the brunt of displacement”, one day before the 77th Independence Day.

He stated, “I salute all such people.” In August 2021, the prime minister designated August 14 as “Partition Horrors Remembrance Day” to honor the “struggles and sacrifices” endured by the millions who were displaced and lost their lives during the Partition.

Meanwhile, ahead of the Independence Day celebrations, the Delhi Police have reinforced security arrangements in the national capital. Approximately 700 police personnel will be working outside Red Fort and other areas in North Delhi on August 15. Moreover, more than 10,000 personnel will be there to ensure law and order and manage traffic throughout the city.

With the anticipation of over 30,000 attendees at the Independence Day parade, the police have elevated their preparations to match the standards of the pre-pandemic era. Security measures encompass an array of components such as over 1,000 cameras, a comprehensive four-layer security arrangement, anti-drone systems, facial recognition systems, bomb disposal squads, and paramilitary forces.

Rashtrapati Bhavan has announced that President Droupadi Murmu will deliver a national address on the eve of the 77th Independence Day.

The entire national network of Akashvani will broadcast the address, and all Doordarshan channels will televise it, commencing at 7 pm.
