Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will meet the Durga puja organisers at Netaji Indoor stadium on 22 August. Though Durga Puja is two months away, the state government is leaving no stone unturned to make the biggest festival of Bengal a grand success. Image making at Kumartuli is being carried out on a war footing. This is the second year after Durga Puja got the intelligible heritage tag from UNESCO.
In 2022, the state government gave Rs 60,000 to the puja committees enhancing the financial assistance by Rs 10,000. The question is whether the state government is going to further hike the amount of the assistance. There are around 43,000 Dura puja committees across the state.
The puja committees have already been informed to attend the meeting at Netaji Indoor stadium. Senior state government officials said as the Centre has stopped paying the money meant for several schemes, the state government has taken pain to carry on with the projects.
Under such a situation it is likely that the financial assistance to the clubs will not be increased. Besides Miss Banerjee, state chief secretary and home secretary, director general o and Commissioner of Police, senior officials of state Fire and Emergency Services department, Disaster management department along with the puja organizers will be present at the meeting. Mayor Firhad Hakim, state sports minister Aroop Biswas and state minister for information and cultural affairs Indranil Sen will be present at the meeting
