As was widely anticipated for a long time, ED sleuths raided premises belonging to Congress leaders this morning. Earlier, the federal agency had conducted several raids on several high profile government officials and businessmen close to CM Baghel. Most of them including Baghel’s powerful Deputy Secretary Saumya Chaurasia have been languished in jail after ED arrested them for money laundering and extortion of levy on coal transportation.
The raids assume significance in the backdrop of Congress party’s 85th plenary session to be held this week. The three-day event will begin on 24.
Youth Congress and NSUI workers held demonstrations against the raids and clashed with the CRPF jawans guarding the raid parties. This is for the first time that the entire Congress leadership came out in open to defend Chhattisgarh government and Bhupesh Baghel since central agencies began their operation in July, 2022.
