Ken-Betwa Link Project: A lifeline for drought-prone Bundelkhand
The Uttar Pradesh government is expediting the Ken-Betwa Link Project, in order to facilitate irrigation of more than 2.5 lakh hectares of land in the Bundelkhand region.
During the inauguration of Kalinjar Mahotsav in Banda, the CM said, “In order to connect Bundelkhand with the development axis and shorten the trip between Delhi and the state capital Lucknow, the Bundelkhand Expressway was constructed.”
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday said a defence corridor is being constructed in the Bundelkhand region, ‘aur wahan ki bani topein jab garjengi toh Pakistan apne aap gayab ho jaega’ (Pakistan will vanish when the Bundelkhand-made weapons start to roar).
During the inauguration of Kalinjar Mahotsav in Banda, the CM said, “In order to connect Bundelkhand with the development axis and shorten the trip between Delhi and the state capital Lucknow, the Bundelkhand Expressway was constructed. You can travel from Chitrakoot to Delhi in just five and a half hours. The airport is going to be built in Chitrakoot too.”
Yogi said, “The mothers and sisters of this region had to travel five miles to gather drinking water in the past, but now that every home has access to clean drinking water because of the Har Ghar Nal, Har Ghar Jal Yojana.”

CM Yogi stated that this job could have been finished sooner, but the “parivardis” and “jaativadi” (casteists) were unwilling to work towards this due to their mindset.
Their family meant everything to them. They didn’t care for Bundelkhand, the state, the poor, villages, farmers, women, or children. Bundelkhand will no longer have a water shortage; it will be like heaven on Earth, he added.
The CM said: “Today, in this series, the program of inauguration and foundation laying for hundreds of projects has been completed.”
He stated that so many projects are coming in this area that Bundelkhand will no longer lag behind in terms of development. Bundelkhand has received proposals of approximately Rs. 4.5 lakh crore during the Global Investors Summit held in Lucknow.
“The youth won’t need to move to other states for employment in this scenario because of the construction of industries on a massive scale. For their crops, farmers will receive a good price. The Sajal stone included in the One District One Product scheme is the identity of Banda and Kathia wheat is the identity of this place, it will also get a good price,” he said.
The CM also enumerated various government initiatives and described how they benefit locals in this area.
He said, “Bundelkhand is one of the top priorities of the double engine government and Prime Minister Modi. A meeting should be conducted with the administration and the tourism department, and the latter should get ready to operate hotels in the forts of Bundelkhand and explore opportunities for tourism growth.”
Today there is no dearth of money for development. We wish that the forts here that are going towards dilapidated conditions should be revived, he added.
