A group of BJP leaders and workers greeted Akhilesh Yadav with black flags when the Samajwadi Party president was attending the Maa Pitambara Mahayagya on the Gomti river banks in Lucknow on Saturday.
Annoyed with the statement of SP leader Swami Prasad Maurya on the Ramcharitramanas, the BJP workers, further, blocked the former UP Chief Minister’s car raising slogans against him. The policemen, however, quelled the protesters and controlled the situation.

Later, talking to media persons, a visibly angry Akhilesh alleged that most of the ruling party leaders and workers, have been trying to take the Hinduism on contract basis.
The BJP considers the backward people as Dalits as Shudras. They have a problem and that’s why, are we going to their religious places to seek the blessings of gurus and saints?,” he said.
Meanwhile, SP leader Swami Prasad Maurya said that he would tender any apology for his statement demanding ban on the Ramcharitramanas.
“What has been said in the Ramcharitmanas, is an insult to the Dalits, Backwards, Tribals of the country. That particular couplet should be removed from the Ramcharitmanas,” he said after meeting party president here at the State party office on Saturday.
Maurya said BJP State president Bhupendra Chowdhary was asking for an apology but he was not the leader of our party.”
The leaders of the Samajwadi Party who are asking for an apology are people of a particular caste. I still stand by my words which is the only truth,” he added.
