The Galaxy Z Fold 5, Samsung’s future premium foldable smartphone for this year, is expected to use a “droplet” style hinge that will purportedly decrease the display crease.
The tech giant reportedly refers to the design as a “dumbbell” hinge internally, claims tipster Ice Universe, according to 9To5Google.
Samsung has modified its design previously, so this wouldn’t be the first time. For example, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 also has a redesigned hinge design, while the Galaxy Z Fold 2 provides unique brushes for dust prevention over the original Z Flip.

The tipper added that even with the revised hinge, the Z Fold 5 is anticipated to have water resistance.
According to the source, Samsung is planning to introduce the Galaxy Z Fold 5 in August of this year.
At its Unpacked presentation this week, Samsung formally announced the debut date of the forthcoming Galaxy S23 series as February 1. This will be the first live event from the South Korean tech giant, Samsung, since the Covid-19 pandemic began in early 2020. It will also be live-streamed on the website for the tech giant.
