The birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda was observed with great enthusiasm today. On the occasion chief minister Mamata Banerjee tweeted: “I pay my humble homage to the visionary spiritual leader Swami Vivekananda on his birth anniversary.
His teachings have inspired generations to walk on the path of service and devotion to mankind. May the light shown by him guide us all to spiritual salvation.” Abhishek Banerjee, national general of Trinamul Congress tweeted: “I bow my head in reverence to Swami Vivekananda on his birth anniversary. A monk, who transcended parochial boundaries to establish the values of unity and humanity amongst us.
His teachings propel me everyday to arise, awaken and to stop not until my goal has been achieved.” Arup Roy garlanded the statue of Swamiji on Hospital Road. Abhishek Banerjee garlanded the statue of Swamiji at his ancestral house. A programme was held in the office of Udbodhan, where Swami Nityamuktanandaji said despite progress in India the poverty could not be removed nor the poorest of the poor could not be given education as desired by Swamiji.
He said Swamiji’s man making character building education is the need of the hour. A youth conference was held at Swamiji’s ancestral house on the National Youth Day. Swami Jnanalokanandaji, secretary of the centre spoke along with the youth speakers. Jnanlokanandaji said the youth should take up social service along with their academic courses to develop total personality. A programme on classical music was held at the Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture to showrespect to Swamiji who was an accomplished classical vocalist. A programme was held at Narendrapur Ramakrishna Mission too.
