The Indian Railways beefed up security and intensified awareness campaigns at various places within Katihar division following the second incident of stone pelting at Vande Bharat Express train. A second FIR has been filed in New Jalpaiguri following the incident.
Within 24 hours of the first incident on Monday when stones were pelted on the newly inaugurated train near Kumarganj in NorthFrontier zone, a similar incident caused damages to Eastern India’s first Vande Bharat yesterday.
The second incident came to the fore when the New Jalpaiguri bound train was being checked by the on-duty staff. Windows of two coaches C3 and C-6 of the indigenously manufactured Vande Bharat train were found damaged.

On cross checking, it was found that it took place at around 1.20 pm when the semi-high-speed train was in the New Jalpaiguri car shed area. Railway engineers from the Integral Coach Factory are said to have inspected the rake that came under attack of unknown miscreants According to official sources, after a case at Samsi, a second FIR has been registered in connection with the incident.
The railways has also intensified its public awareness programme with miking in the Kumarganj area. “Announcements are also being made at railway stations making people aware about the stringent actions that could be taken against the act,” informed an official of the railways. “We are also distributing leaflets among citizens about the offence and punishments that it carries,” he added.
As informed by sources, as proactive measures, security arrangements have been beefed up, both inside and outside the premium train. While additional number security personnel have been deployed inside the coaches of the rake, RPF personnel are being sent in the Kumarganj area and other places where the incidents of stone pelting took place in the last two days.
