Yesterday, the Allahabad High Court had directed the state government to hold the civic polls with OBC reservation by January 31 after quashing the reservation system of the government of December 5 as it did not follow the set norms of triple test.
CM Yogi Adityanath, in a statement, had yesterday said that the state government will set up a commission in the context of urban local body elections and provide reservation facilities to other backward classes on the basis of a triple test.
“The civic polls will be held only after completing the triple test to provide reservation to the OBCs in the municipal polls,” he stressed.
Yogi said if required, the state government will also approach the Supreme Court after considering all the legal aspects regarding the decision of the High Court.
As per the triple test, before determining reservation for OBCs in municipal elections, a commission will be constituted, which will assess the nature of backwardness in the bodies.
Thereafter the Commission will propose reservation of seats for backward classes. In the second phase, the number of OBCs will be tested by the local bodies and in the third phase, verification will be done at the government level.
