The National Capital experienced cold wave conditions on the day of Christmas on Sunday with the minimum temperature being recorded at 5.3 degrees Celsius, three degrees below normal.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Safdarjung Observatory, the primary weather station in Delhi, had recorded the minimum temperature.

The maximum temperature was recorded at 16.2 degrees Celsius, five degrees below normal.

“Severe cold reported from most the places in Punjab; cold day at most places with isolated severe cold day reported over Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi; cold day to severe cold day at isolated places over northwest Rajasthan and west Uttar Pradesh,” the IMD said in a tweet.

The mercury has dipped in north India, including the National Capital, due to cold winds blowing in the entire region.

The IMD, on Sunday, said the cold wave conditions were observed in isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and northwest Rajasthan. Dense fog is also expected to bring down visibility in Delhi, and Himachal Pradesh. People in Uttar Pradesh and northwest Rajasthan will experience cold wave conditions along with these areas, the Met Department said.

The Met Department has issued a warning of severe cold conditions over the next few days in north Rajasthan, and till Monday in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Himachal Pradesh.

According to the IMD, Delhi will continue to be in the grip of a cold wave on Monday.

A total of 10 trains of the Northern Railway were running late due to low visibility on Sunday, sources said.

According to official sources, most of the trains were running late by a minimum of one hour and maximum of four hours. Gaya-New Delhi Mahabodhi, Darbhanga-New Delhi Special, Howrah-New Delhi Express, and Benaras-New Delhi Express were some of the trains from the list running late today.

According to CPRO Northern Railway, the Darbhanga-New Delhi Special was running late by two hours 45 minutes, the Gaya-New Delhi Mahabodhi was running late by one and a half hours.

The Malda town-Delhi JN Farakka was running late by one and a half hours whereas the Raigarh-Nizamuddin train was running late by three hours.

Earlier on Saturday, the Northern Railway informed that a total of 14 Delhi-bound trains were running late due to dense fog in the National Capital Region.
