Stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has a “big heart”, senior Congress general secretary and party MLA Vikramaditya Singh in Himachal Pradesh said here on Tuesday hoped that he will extend his support to Himachal Pradesh, which is his “second home”.

Addressing the media here on Wednesday, Vikramaditya Singh said the cordial relations between the Centre and state government is strongly imperative for the development of the state. “We are part of the Union of India and financial help is a right of the state,” he said.

The son of six-time Himachal Pradesh chief minister hoped that ideological differences between the Congress and the BJP won’t come in the way of development of the state. He cited the example of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who had kept a working relationship with his “personal friend” Virbhadra Singh, when he was the CM.

The Congress leader said Himachal Pradesh is under debt burden and the state government will leverage all its resources such as excise, mining, and forest reserves to increase its income.

He said all ten guarantees promised by the party in the election manifesto, such as restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS), Rs 1,500 allowance for women, Rs 680 crore for youth, and five lakh jobs in government and private sectors, will be fulfilled in a phased manner.
