With the arrest of three key members and recovery of 14 illegal firearms, the team of Special Staff of South District has busted an inter-state illegal firearm syndicate operating from western Uttar Pradesh.
The arrested accused have been identified as Istkar, 58, Munkad, 60, and Raheesh, 55, who were actively indulging in supply of illegal firearms to the various gangs of criminals in Delhi-NCR. Upon their instance, 14 illegal firearms including 13 sophisticated single-shot country made pistols and one musket of 12 bore have been recovered.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, South Delhi, Chandan Chaudhary said that keeping in view of recent incidents of firing by the criminals in different parts of the national capital, the team of Special Staff, South District, was specifically tasked to bust the syndicate behind the supply of illegal firearms in the area of Delhi-NCR.
Technical as well as manual sources were geared-up to gather more information about these firearm syndicates being operated by Western Uttar Pradesh based illegal firearm manufacturers, police said.
On December 12, a specific information was received by the police team that a key member of the syndicate and a native of Radhna, UP would come to G-Block, Bus Stand Ambedkar Nagar, near Pipal Chowk, on Mehrauli-Badarpur Road to supply illegal firearms to his buyers.
Accordingly, a team comprising of Sub-Inspectors Yogesh, Dayanand, Dharmender, Assistant SIs Manoj, Jugnu, Sanjay, Ashok, Joginder, Head-Constables Rakesh, Pushpender, Sunil and others led by Inspector (Special Staff) Atul Tyagi, was formed to nab the supplier.
A trap was laid on MB Road, at about 8.40 pm, and one accused Istkar was arrested with five pistols. Later on, at his instance his associates – Munkad and Raheesh – were also arrested from UP and nine more illegal firearms were recovered.
