AAP national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, on Saturday, interacted with the party’s newly-elected Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) councillors. He directed them to stick to the path of righteousness and honesty.
This was the first formal interaction between all the councillors and the AAP senior leadership after the party won a thumping majority in the MCD elections.
Accompanied by Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai, Kejriwal invoked the values of staunch honesty, public service and goodwill while talking to the councillors.
Kejriwal said, “The public and the party have reposed faith in you, now it’s your responsibility to reflect those values across the country.”
The Delhi chief minister further said, “All councillors should do such a wonderful job in the next five years that the public faith in us becomes stronger.”
“They will try to buy you for 10-50 lakh, but don’t fall into their traps, if they call or come to meet you, record them, it is necessary to expose them. We have won the hearts of the people by working diligently in Delhi, because of which even after all the propaganda, the BJP could not break people’s faith in us,” Kejriwal said.
“If you work honestly, even after all the conspiracies, your character and conduct will take you forward,” the Delhi chief minister contended, adding that “lust for money is a very dirty addiction. It is very difficult to get rid of this addiction. Do not indulge in this addiction, otherwise you will be ruined.”
Speaking on the occasion, Sisodia predicted that the victory of AAP will usher in a golden era for MCD. Reminding the councillors of the poll promises made by the party, he said, “Now, we have to clear the mountains of garbage, clean all streets, fix all roads and improve the primary health system.”
On the occasion, the party also announced the appointment of Ms Atishi, Saurabh Bhardwaj, Durgesh Pathak, and Adil Khan as coordinators and mentors for the councillors and assigned them the responsibility of looking after three zones each.
The AAP stormed to power in the MCD, ending the 15-year rule of the BJP in the powerful civic body of the National Capital winning 134 of the 250 wards while the BJP, which had been ruling the civic body since 2007, bagged 104 seats. The Congress finished a poor third with nine seats while Independents bagged three wards.
