Jashn-e-Rekhta Makes International Debut in London
Jashn-e-Rekhta, the renowned Urdu cultural festival, ventures abroad with its international debut in London, promoting the richness of the Urdu language and culture.
Hailing the work of doyen of Urdu poetry, Mirza Ghalib, poet-lyricist Javed Akhtar, on Saturday, said people should remember Mahatma Gandhi’s values and Ghalib’s words.
“We should remember Gandhi’s values and Ghalib’s Zubaan (words),” Javed Akhtar said here during a session titled ‘Puchhte Hain Wo Ki Ghalib Kaun Hai’ at Jashn-e-Rekhta, the festival that celebrates all the facets of Urdu through various art forms.
“The name of new thinking is Ghalib,” Javed Akhtar asserted while addressing the session which was jam-packed with the audience.
The poet-lyricist said Ghalib was secular and his poetry reflects that he was a forward-looking person. “Ghalib’s poetry had logic and there is no match to his analysis and understanding,” the renowned lyricist and screenwriter said.
Mirza Ghalib was a victorious poet by temperament, and he used to analyse pain, he said.
Javed Akhtar further said that people, who are giants of literature, really believe that Ghalib was the biggest poet of the 19th century.
Talking about Mirza Ghalib’s letters, Javed Akhtar said, “Ghalib’s letters were like you are talking to someone.”
Last held in December 2019, the Jashn-e-Rekhta festival returned on-ground after a pandemic break of three years. The event is devoted to the preservation and promotion of language, literature and culture. The festival has a line-up of ghazals, poetry symposiums, qawwali, sufi music and lots more.
The 7th edition of Jashn-e-Rekhta was inaugurated on December 2 by Javed Akhtar and Sanjiv Saraf, founder of the Rekhta Foundation at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in the National Capital. The three-day festival commenced on Friday, and it will conclude on Sunday.
