Mild quake hits Assam’s Dima Hasao district; no casualties reported
A mild earthquake, measuring 3.8 on the Richter scale, hit Assam’s mountainous Dima Hasao district on Saturday night, officials said.
The epicenter was determined to be at 6.840 degrees south latitude and 107.107 degrees east longitude.
At least 20 people lost their lives, while 300 got injured in an earthquake of magnitude 5.4 that rocked Indonesia’s western province of the main island of Java on Monday, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
According to the sources, most of the injured had fractures from being trapped by the ruins of buildings.
The quake’s tremors were also felt throughout the Indonesian capital of Jakarta. According to the USGS, the earthquake’s depth was 10.0 Km below the ground and occurred around 11:51:10 (UTC+05:30) on Monday.
