A Sub-Inspector (SI) of Uttar Pradesh Police committed suicide by shooting himself with his service pistol in Jasola Vihar area of Southeast Delhi on late Sunday night.

The deceased has been identified as Manoj Vishwakarma (34), a resident of Gaddopur, Prayagraj, UP. His body has been preserved in a mortuary for post-mortem and the family has been informed about the incident.

An inquest into the matter has been initiated.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast Delhi), Esha Paday said that preliminary investigation of the case has revealed that Manoj was married and has a daughter. However, he entered into a love affair with another woman during his posting in Azamgarh District, UP.

It was revealed during the inquiry that he was under stress due his extra-marital affair for the last few days. However, the police are investigating the matter to ascertain the exact reason for his suicide.

The DCP said that the deceased Manoj Vishwakarma was a 2016 batch SI of Uttar Pradesh Police and he was posted at Devgaon police station in Azamgarh at present.

It is said that Manoj had gone to Haryana on November 11 to investigate a case registered at Devgaon police station. From Haryana he came to his friend’s house located in Jasola Vihar area of Delhi.

There at friend’s house Manoj shot himself with his service pistol at around 12.45 am in the intervening night of Sunday and Monday.

His friend informed the Sarita Vihar police. Further investigation into the matter is being carried out.
