Pointing out that the most reliable state-of-the-art and cheapest treatment is available in India today, Lok Sabha Speaker Mr Om Birla, on Saturday, called upon doctors to attend and administer treatment to patients sensitively.

Speaking at the 5th Convocation of Mahatma Gandhi University of Medical Sciences and Technology here, Birla said Indian doctors and medical services were honoured all over the world, though a lot was yet to be done for research and  young doctors have a big responsibility for this.

He appealed to the new doctors to serve and treat patients with full sensitivity.

Hailing the progress of the medical institution, Birla said, “The caravan of Mahatma Gandhi University started from the year 2000 is s now included in the category of top universities with the determination of Dr. M L Swaranakar.

He said the hospital, which has set a record in the field of organ transplantation, is a matter of pride for the state. Medical service is a pious and holy work, it is the responsibility of the coming generation of doctors to maintain purity in it. New doctors should maintain the dignity of their medical profession.

Appreciating the services rendered by the hospital, he said the day was not far when this varsity will establish its identity as the best and reliable institution in the series of selected medical and universities of the country and the world.

Prof Dr M L Swaranakar, Emeritus Chairperson of the Institute, advised the doctors to lead a life with humility, discipline and simplicity by taking a pledge to serve the society.

The new doctors should come here with a dedication to social service, he said, adding that the doctors should also adopt the best character in their profession. He said that while serving the patients, the doctors should also take care of their health also.

Degrees were awarded to more than 190 Medicos, Dental, Physio, Hospital Management Nursing students at the convocation ceremony. Gold medals were awarded to the meritorious students by the Speaker.
