A 42-year old man in Laxmi Nagar, East Delhi, committed suicide by cutting his vein after killing his wife. The deceased has been identified as Neeraj and his wife as Jyoti, both residents of Gali Number-2, West Guru Angad Dev Nagar, East Delhi.

Sharing information about the incident, Deputy Commissioner of Police, East Delhi, Priyanka Kashyap on Wednesday said, a scuffle had ensued between the couple, and their minor son, aged around 13 years, was also severely injured. He has been admitted to a hospital.

It was revealed during initial inquiry that the relation between husband and wife was not so cordial and they used to quarrel frequently over minor issues. They were also facing an economic crisis these days.

If police sources are to be believed, there were also differences between them over the sale of personal property. It is also said that Neeraj used to doubt his wife’s character.

According to DCP, several PCR calls were received at Laxmi Nagar Police Station on September 6 at about 9.15 pm in the night. It was informed that the husband and wife had been stabbed during a quarrel.

A police team rushed to the spot immediately, where Neeraj and Jyoti were found lying in a pool of blood with serious stab injuries. One of their two sons was injured by a sharp object.

All three were taken to the hospital, where the couple succumbed to their injuries. The bodies have been preserved for post-mortem examination. An inquest proceeding has been initiated in this regard, said the police. A case has been registered at Laxmi Nagar Police Station.

According to the statement given by family members of the deceased, during the quarrel which took place on Tuesday night, Neeraj assaulted his wife and one of his sons. He took a knife from the kitchen and stabbed his wife several times before cutting her wrist. Later, he cut his own wrist as well.

Meanwhile, both the children rushed toward the ground floor and raised an alarm. Hearing the noise, neighbours rushed to the spot where they found that the door of the house was bolted from inside. They broke into the place and found both husband and wife lying in a pool of blood. They were taken to the hospital, where they succumbed to injuries during the treatment.
