As per our ancient Hindu mythology, an Astra (Sanskrit word for weapons) is a supernatural weapon. These weapons are invoked by specific mantras (chants) to summon the energy of a respective deity. The mantra creates energy, that can be channeled into any object, and that object becomes a weapon, imbibed with supernatural powers. The weapon which carries all the powers of all the deities becomes Brahmashirsha Astra, also known as Brahmastra, the weapon which is able to destroy the world, capable of destroying creation and destroying all its human beings.
The Storyline of Film Brahmastra
The story tells the struggles of Shiva, a DJ, who later realizes his powers and emerges as the fire element. He holds the power to awaken the Brahmastra. Whereas, the forces of the evil are also on a quest to get hold of the Brahmastra.
Ranbir Kapoor plays the role of a character named ‘Shiva’, Shiva is also a Supreme Lord in Hindu mythology. However, in Bharamastra, Shiva realizes that ancient forces are at play in the world with two sides facing each other in the battle to get their hands on the Brahmastra, something similar that has already been shown in the Hindu mythological tale of Mahabharta, during the episode of Samudra Manthan, where the Gods and Devils fight for Amrit.
We see glimpses of the other big stars of Bollywood–Amitabh Bachchan and Nagarjuna–whereas Mouni Roy plays the role of the villain in the film.
Amitabh Bachchan’s character tells Shiva how he is connected to the realm of Astra and then Shiva understands his role as the protector- which was his calling. Whereas talented actress Alia Bhat plays the role of Shiva’s love interest Isha and we see romance brewing between the two.
The fact that they are trying something different and unique is appreciable. People who love Nordic Mythology like Marvel movies are off for a treat.
The chemistry between the leads Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt looks amazing. Akkineni Nagarjuna, the Tollywood star, is making his grand come back to Bollywood with this film, which will definitely attract southern audiences. The trailer also features iconic actor Amitabh Bachchan and Naagin actress Mouni Roy. One can see that the actors are involved in some sought celestial war. As Ayan Mukerji is the director of this film, everyone knows that he is a master storyteller when it comes to narrating romance and, with Brahmastra, and taking newlywed celebrity couple Ranbir and Alia has given the audience one more reason to watch the film on the big screen.
Talking about the film’s trailer release, Ayan Mukerji said, “Marking the beginning of a new cinematic universe, ‘The Astraverse’, I believe Brahmāstra is the kind of film that the country would feel really proud of. It touches on our roots; celebrates our rich culture and takes us forward with our technology. The film is proudly Indian and Imaginative and bringing together some of Pan-India’s most renowned names was a dream come true.”
The movie will release theatrically on September 9th, 2022, in 5 Indian languages – Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada. Brahmastra took almost five years to complete. The film has seen a number of delays over the years, and one of the major reasons was the Covid 19 pandemic.
