A violent agitation against the Modi Government’s Agneepath Scheme continued on the third day on Friday and spread to at least ten more districts of Rajasthan marked by rail track interruption, highways jam and blockade of city roads, and stone-pelting.
A mob interrupted the rail traffic on Jaipur-Agra road in Bharatpur and indulged in stone-pelting even as the police tried to disperse them. In a similar incident, the glass of a rail engine was smashed by the protesters in the Chittorgarh district. Protesters also damaged some private and government vehicles at some places.
Stray incidents of protest by youths were reported from Kotkasim, Bharatpur, Kotputali, Neemkathana, Reengus, Srimadhopur, Chittorgarh, Sikar, Kota, the Additional Director-General of Police (Law & Order) Hawa Singh Ghumariya, told SNS.
“At least 100 miscreant youths have been detained for interrogation in parts of Rajasthan”, ADGP said.
However there was no incident of arson, and the situation was under control, ADGP claimed.
A mob of defence coaching students led by the Students Federation of India marched from SK Ground in Sikar shouting anti-Agneepath Scheme and burnt an effigy of PM Modi outside the collector’s office. The protesters also forced shopkeepers to shut down shutters in Srimadhopur and clashed with cops who tried to disperse them.
Upset by the scheme, a 23-year-old youth (name not disclosed) who was preparing for the defence services exams, allegedly tried to commit suicide by hanging from the ceiling at Alwar’s Mundawar town. However, timely intervention by his friend saved his life. The rescuer, Dheeraj Singh, told media persons that his friend had passed the medical and physical tests, and was getting overage that sent him into depression after the announcement of Agneepath job format.
