Food inflation to calm down on likelihood of bumper kharif harvest: Govt
The review said India’s retail inflation jumped in October to 6.21%, a 14-month high, driven by elevated food inflation in a “few vegetables”.
During the inspection, the Deputy Chief Minister took stock of all the issues being faced by the traders and laid focus on their ideas that would lead to higher footfall in the market and give a boost to the businesses.
Soon, the Delhi government will redevelop Kamla Nagar market as Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia conducted an on-ground inspection of the market.
The market’s identity as a ‘youth hangout zone’ will be further cultivated and a unique brand would be developed for the market. Sisodia said, “Kamla Nagar will soon be known as the pride of Delhi. We will craft a unique experience for both traders & shoppers under our redevelopment plan. Delhi Government will develop such an identity for Kamla Nagar that it’ll become recognisable in a single glimpse. The business community of Kamla Nagar is an equal & important stakeholder in its redevelopment. All their needs & ideas will be taken care of.”
He fuhrer said that all overhead transmission lines would go underground, and the market will be beautified and world-class public amenities would be developed in Kamla Nagar.

He also noted the shortcomings of the area in terms of hygiene and sanitation, public utilities, parking and traffic among others. Sisodia added, “Kamla Nagar is an essential part of the ‘DU Culture’. Whoever studies in DU spends a significant part of their life in this market. DU’s students living all over the world cherishes their memories of Kamla Nagar.”
Sharing details of what entails the redevelopment project, the Deputy CM said that the government’s goal is to develop a unique experience around the market.
“Under the redevelopment, we will do a complete face-lift of the market. We will take the whole overhead power transmission system here underground. We will beautify the area and offer a business friendly ambience. We would redevelop the market as per a theme that gives it such an identity that one can recognise it in a single glimpse. This will help people know and remember what the Kamla Nagar market has on offer. We aim to ensure a quality experience for our public, be it shopping, eating or using the public facilities, it should all be world-class.”
Meanwhile, the Delhi government will revamp five major markets as per global standards.
During phase one, Delhi Government will redevelop Kamla Nagar, Khari Baoli, Lajpat Nagar, Sarojini Nagar & Kirti Nagar and rebrand them as shopping hotspots.
Presently there are more than 3.5 lakh shops in all the retail markets of Delhi, which employ about 7.5 lakh people
To select the 5 markets for redevelopment in 1st phase, a stakeholder consultation was convened by Deputy CM on 21 April, 2022 in which over 100 representatives from 50 market associations participated. This meeting was called to kickstart the selection process.
