Haryana Governor Satyadev Narayan Arya, who was last week transferred by the President of India, on Wednesday took over as the 19th Governor of Tripura, succeeding Ramesh Bais, who has been shifted to Jharkhand.
The 82-year-old Arya was sworn in by Tripura High Court Chief Justice Akil Kureshi at a simple function at the old Raj Bhavan.
Arya, a former Bihar Minister and ex-Bharatiya Janata Party leader, is the third governor of Tripura after the BJP led coalition government came to power in the state around three-and-a-half years ago.

Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb, his cabinet colleagues and leaders of several political parties, besides army and police officers attended the event.
However, the Congress and the Communist Party of India-Marxist leaders, including former chief minister Manik Sarkar, kept away from the ceremony.
As counting of the votes for assembly polls is underway, BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla said that the BJP-led NDA alliance will form the government in both Maharashtra and Jharkhand under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday.
Ahead of counting of votes for the 2024 Jharkhand Assembly Elections, BJP leader Babulal Marandi claimed with confidence that the BJP-led NDA would win over 51 seats and form the government in the state, citing corruption in the incumbent administration as the key reason.
As the counting for Jharkhand's 2024 Assembly Elections began on Saturday, Chief Electoral Officer K Ravi Kumar said that the first round of EVM results expected to be announced by 9:30 am with counting of postal ballots begining earlier at 8 this morning.
