India registered the biggest single-day spike in the coronavirus cases on Thursday with 95,735 coronavirus cases reported in last 24 hours taking the total number of infections to over 44.65 lakh, government data said.

The country also recorded the highest deaths in a day with 1,172 fatalities.

In terms of recovery, 72,939 have recovered in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 34,71,783. The recovery rate in the country is 77.7 per cent.

The total number of active cases in India has estimated over 9.19 lakh cases.

According to government data, the daily positivity rate in the country is 8.4 per cent.

Maharashtra is at the top of the list in terms of most-affected states in India registering 23,577 cases in the last 24 hours. The number of deaths is also highest in Maharashtra with 380 fatalities.

In last 24 hours, Andhra Pradesh with 10,418 cases, Karnataka with 9,540 cases, Uttar Pradesh with 6,568 cases and Tamil Nadu 5,584 cases are most affected states.

In terms of worldwide stats, India is behind the US in terms of cases as the US has over 63.59 lakh cases.

India has been reporting the highest number of daily coronavirus cases in the world for nearly a month, according to the World Health Organization data.
