State’s first green road in East Burdwan
After having the state's first blue road, East Burdwan now has a green road, a pioneering effort in Bengal, which is now set to be opened for public use.
A highest single-day discharge of 838 patients was recorded today taking the number of recovered patients to 22,253. The discharge rate has further dipped to 58.54 per cent today.
Even after lockdown being enforced in broad-based containment zones, over 1800 people of the state tested Covid positive in the last 24 hours with the total cases crossing 38,000. A highest single-day spike of 1,894 fresh cases was recorded in Bengal with Kolkata and North 24 Parganas setting a record number of 563 and 443 fresh cases respectively.
Howrah recorded 182 cases and South 24 Parganas 160. Twenty-six people died due to Covid in a single day taking the death toll to 1,049 while the total case count in the state has increased to 38,011. Presently, there are 14,709 active cases. Of the 26 deaths, 12 deaths were registered in Kolkata, seven in North 24 Parganas, three in Howrah and one each in Hooghly, Nadia, East Midnapore and South Dinajpur.
The total case count in Kolkata has crossed 12,000 and in North 24 Parganas over 7,000 people have been affected till now. Again, the occupancy rate in hospitals has increased to 34.79 per cent. In government-designated Covid hospitals, 7,191 out of 11,027 beds are vacant and in private hospitals, 209 out of 1,858 Covid beds are unoccupied. Currently, 3,839 people are in government quarantine centres, 27,410 in home quarantine and 230 migrant workers in home quarantine.
This apart, 497 mildly symptomatic patients are in the 106 safe homes. Seven new containment zones were added in Kolkata of which two areas are in Gariahat and two in Bhowanipore. In North 24 Parganas, containment zones have increased to 116.
Police took up a drive to sensitise people about the importance of taking protective measures during the ongoing Covid pandemic in many areas of Salt Lake under Bidhannagar Commissionerate. Masks were distributed to people in many areas in Salt Lake.
