India had then out at Pakistan saying it has callously exploited the picture of an injured Palestinian girl to spread falsehoods about India and to divert attention from Islamabad’s role as the hub of world terrorism.
The picture of the injured girl that Lodhi displayed was that of Rawya Abu Jom’s taken in July 2014 and published by The New York Times in March 2015 under the caption, “Conflict, Courage and Healing in Gaza”.
Akbaruddin invoked the gaffe by Pakistan as its Prime Minister yet again on Friday tagged a video of police brutality from Bangladesh along with a series of tweets. The caption on one such clip read: “Indian police’s pogrom against Muslims in UP”.
The Ministry of External Affairs had earlier slammed Imran Khan for peddling “fake news”.
“Tweet Fake News. Get Caught. Delete Tweet. Repeat,” MEA Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar tweeted with the hashtag ”Old habits die hard”.
Indian Twitterati also flayed Khan for sharing fake videos against India.
The tweets by Imran Khan were posted as violence unfolded in Pakistan’s Nankana Sahib where hundreds of angry Muslim residents pelted stones on a Gurdwara with devotees inside the shrine.
