India skipper Virat Kohli, who made his international debut against Sri Lanka in 2008, is a household name today. The run machine, who boasts as many as 43 ODI and 27 Test hundreds, registered his maiden century in international cricket exactly 10 years ago on this very date.
It was India against Sri Lanka in fourth ODI of the five-match series at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, where Kohli achieved the feat.

Chasing a stiff target of 316, India were tottering at 23 for 2 when Kohli entered the ground. Pressure was fully surmounted on the young right-hander and the crowd was numb, but a few knew that a master of chase was in the making.
Kohli played an impressing knock of 107 runs and boasted the glimpses of a great chaser. Along with Gautam Gambhir, he added 224 runs for the third wicket and killed the game before falling to Suraj Randiv after a well-made century.
However, Kohli’s partner Gambhir went on to score an unbeaten 150 to take India home with seven wickets in hand.
Notably, Kohli with 1377 ODI runs in 2019 finished as the second-highest run-getter in the format. He finished only behind team-mate Rohit Sharma.
In India’s most recent match, Kohli played an anchor innings of 85 runs off 81 balls in Men in Blue’s 316-run chase in the third and final ODI at Cuttak, which the hosts won by 4 wickets.
