ED Cracks Down on CMJ University in Shillong for Fake Degree Scam
On Monday, ED officials conducted search operations at the university's offices and the residences of its Chancellor, Chandra Mohan Jha, and his family members.
The ED further asked the Bureau of Immigration to confiscate her passport in the event of her trying to flee the country, a source close to the central agency said.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED), which is looking for Rose Valley Group owner Gautam Kundu’s wife, Subhra Kundu, relating to the alleged “irregularity” in the balance sheet of Adrija Jewellry, a franchise belonging to the Rose Valley Realty Group, today issued a lookout notice against her. The agency also asked the immigration authorities to stop her from leaving the country. The ED further asked the Bureau of Immigration to confiscate her passport in the event of her trying to flee the country, a source close to the central agency said.
The move to issue a lookout notice against a member of the former board of directors of the jewellry franchise Adrija Group of the Rose Valley Group was initiated after Mrs Kundu skipped three summons issued to her by the central probe agency asking her to appear before it for questioning. Since she was “unavailable” despite repeated attempts to contact her, said the source, the notice was issued. The Bureau of Immigration was also alerted to confiscate her passport if anybody in her name tries to flee the country.

According to the source, irregularities were detected in the balance sheet of the Rose Valley’s jewellry franchise, of which Subhra was one of the board of directors. The source said Subhra is accused of possessing jewellry worth Rs 80 lakh, which was allegedly fraudulently withdrawn from the franchise. Earlier, the Enforcement Directorate pasted a notice at Subhra Kundu’s flat on Prince Anwar Shah Road. It sealed two almirahs after having failed to contact her. The ED officials had failed to get the keys for unlocking the almirahs. The keys could not be traced, the source said.
