Marcus Rashford’s brace in Thursday’s encounter against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge helped the Red Devils book a place in the League Cup quarterfinals.
The 22-year-old English striker’s spot kick in the first-half and a stunning long-range free-kick in the second handed the visitors a superb victory in a match which was dominated by the home team.
The penalty was awarded to United after Marcos Alonso fouled Daniel James, and Rashford didn’t dishearten the Red Devils and provided them the lead by sending Willy Caballero in the wrong direction.

But Chelsea, who had won their last seven games, found the equaliser in the 61st minute when Michy Batshuayi put a great run from the halfway line and finished from outside the box to beat United goalie Sergio Romero.
The game was largely controlled by the hosts, who were more accurate with their passes and possession, but their inability to convert opened the gates for the guests.
United took a heavy toll in the 73rd minute when Marcus Rashford stood over a free-kick and decided to try his luck from 30 yards to put a special and stunning goal into the basket. His rocket hit wobbled through the air and dipped into the top corner, making Caballero’s attempt to save the goal futile.
With the goal, Rashford has scored four times against the Blues this season and five in total – more than any other club he has faced.
The win was United’s second over Chelsea this season, having beaten them 4-0 at Old Trafford on the opening day of the Premier League.
