The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probing the ponzi scams including Saradha and Rose Valley, wrote to the state director general of police ( DGP) seeking to quiz at least nine officers including the former head of the detective department of Kolkata police Damayanti Sen and Waqar Raza, deputy commissioner, Port ( DC port) in connection with the Saradha and Rose Valley cases.
The central agency, it was learnt in all likelihood to interrogate them after 4 November, informed a source. Apart from Sen and Raza, seven other officers of the state police too are on the radar of the central investigation agency for questioning , for whom the agency has written to the DGP Virendra seeking his cooperation to interrogate them.
A source close to the CBI said that the interrogation of Damayanti Sen, the former head of the detective department of Kolkata police and now the additional commissioner (1) Kolkata police, was necessitated since the IPS officer was among the few who had first written to the market regulator security and exchange board of India (SEBI) way back in 2010 apprising it of the activities of some chit fund companies operating in the state in contravention of the SEBI guidelines.
On Waqar Raza, DC Port, said the source ,who was an important member of the state constituted SIT, headed by the former city police commissioner Rajeev Kumar, which was formed to inquire into the chit fund scams, will likely to be questioned on his meeting with the customs officers during his tenure in the CID. On the rest of IPS officers, the source claimed were either part of the SIT or the officers of the Bidhanangar Commissionrate headed by the then commissioner of police Rajeev Kumar.
The source however, neither confirmed nor denied the query on whether the central agency was trying to gather more information on regard to the former top cop of the city police Rajeev Kumar, against whom a petition was filed by t he agency in the Supreme court seeking a stay on the Calcutta High Court order. The CBI, said the source, would like to ascertain the situation by putting those officers through questioning as they worked in various capacities in the Bidhananagar Commissionerte or in the SIT when the chit fund companies were at its peak mobilising crores of repees from the investors.
Earlier, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probing the larger conspiracy in the Saradha ponzi scam, had summoned Mr Arnab Ghosh, former DC DD( Deputy Commissioner, Detective Department) of Bidhan Nagar commissionerate for interrogation. Debrbrata Banerjee, former IO at the Bidhannagar commissionerate under the then Commissioner of Police Bidhannagar, Mr Rajiv Kumar, was too interrogated by the CBI sleuths on the allegedly “missing” some incriminating documents that the central Investigation agency had repeatedly alleged not been able to get hold of till date.
