The day is reserved for holding get-togethers with family and friends. Diwali celebrations begin in the real sense on the day of Chhoti Diwali.

There is great significance to this day. It is believed that ancestors who came in the month of Shraddha return to Chadralok on this day.

Due to Amavasya on this day, the moon does not come out due to which the ancestors may wander, so for their convenience, a big lamp is lit on Narak Chaturdashi.

It is also believed that those who wake up early in the morning and take a bath get a place in heaven. After taking the bath, mustard oil is applied to the body. By worshipping Yamraj in the evening and lighting a lamp, the premature death of the devotee is averted.

This year, the auspicious time to take a bath is from 4:15 am to 5:29 am.

The auspicious time of Deepdan in the name of Yamraj is from 6 pm to 7 pm in the evening.
