Paine concerned about Gambhir’s inability to stay calm under pressure

India’s new Test opener Rohit Sharma on Wednesday became the third Indian batsman in to reach the Top 10 ICC Rankings in all the three formats of the game after a man of the series performance against South Africa in which he made his debut as a Test Opener.
Rohit joined Virat Kohli and former Indian opening batsman Gautam Gambhir in the list of Indian Cricketers who have breached the Top 10 mark in Tests, ODIs and T20Is. His maiden double hundred in the Ranchi Test helped him take a massive jump in the rankings and reach the 10th position in the ICC Test Player Rankings.
Prior to the series, Rohit was placed in the 44th position but as the series progressed, Rohit’s ranking improved. While before the South Africa series, Rohit had only 3 Test hundreds to his name, he has doubled the number in the series and now has six hundreds to his credit.

Rohit Sharma’s career-best ranking was second in ODIs (February 2018) and seventh in T20Is (November 2018), while this is his best ranking in Test matches.
On the other hand, Kohli has been the number one ranked batsman in all three formats of the game. In contrast, Gautam Gambhir’s highest career ranking was eighth in ODIs while he has been at the top of the rankings in Tests and ODIs.
Indian pacers Mohammad Shami and Umesh Yadav, who performed brilliantly throughout the series, ended the series with their highest-ever points tally. While Shami is on 751 points and ranked 15th, Yadav is on 624 points and ranked 24th.
