Former India pacer S Sreesanth and politician Sashi Tharoor have their own takes after Kerala batsman Sanju Samson hit a fiery 212 in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Praising the efforts of Kerala batsman, Tharoor, who is the Member of Parliament from Thiruvananthapuram, tweeted, “In transit in Frankfurt on the way to the @IPUparliament meeting in Belgrade when i get the news that Thiruvananthapuram’s own Sanju Samson has hit 200 in a Vijay Hazare 50 over game! Ten sixes, 20 fours. Don’t know if our white-ball selectors were watching?!.”

While many recognized Tharoor’s effort to ask the selectors to put their priorities on Samson, the tweet did not go down well with Sreesanth, who also happens to be from the same city. Commenting on the Congress leader’s tweet, Sreesanth asked him to not tag the cricketer “as just a Trivandrum boy”.
Sreesanth tweeted, “Sir..,Don’t tag him as just a Trivandrum boy..he is Malayalam”s proud son and a great INDIAN. He is gonna make all of us proud very soon by scoring big and better in internationals @where he belongs..let’s hope and give him the best support .. @IamSanjuSamson.”
For long, Samson has been in the cricket circuit and in contention for a place in the national team. But unfortunately, after just one chance in a Twenty-20 International (T20I) against Zimbabwe in 2015, the selectors have turned a blind eye towards the 24-year-old. However, with his recent form and the double ton in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, many feel that the Indian dressing room’s door should now open for him, especially when Rishabh Pant’s place in the squad seems to be under severe scrutiny.
On Friday, Samson played an unbeaten knock of 212 which has now become the highest individual score by a wicketkeeper-batsman in the history of List A cricket worldwide. Before turning up for his state team, the youngster had shone in the India A colours as well where he scored 91 in the 5th unofficial ODI and helped his team win after the match was reduced to a contest of 20 overs.
