As the world enters 2025, former U.S. President Donald Trump, now preparing for his second term, has reignited the flames of territorial ambition with rhetoric that harks back to America’s imperial past.
California Senator Kamala Harris apologised on Saturday after facing criticism that the Democrat presidential candidate laughed at an offensive remark about President Donald Trump.
On Friday, Harris took to Twitter, saying “When my staff played the video from my town hall yesterday (Friday), it was upsetting. I didn’t hear the words the man used in that moment, but if I had I would’ve stopped and corrected him. I’m sorry. That word and others like it aren’t acceptable. Ever”.

“It’s offensive and you would think that in the year 2019, people would have a better understanding of how hurtful a term like that can be; but also the history behind it, which is a history of really ignoring the needs and the realities and the capacity of our disability community”, she added.
The incident took place during a town hall in New Hampshire, when a person in the audience while posing a question at Harris called Trump’s actions “mentally retarded”, to which she replied, “well said”, according to reports.
A video of the incident went viral on social media on Saturday, which garnered widespread criticism online.
Last month, Harris released a policy proposal geared at expanding economic opportunity for people with disabilities.
