Atlanta United eliminate Messi’s Inter Miami from MLS Cup playoffs
Atlanta United staged a stunning upset in Major Soccer League (MLS) Cup playoffs, eliminating Supporters' Shield winners Inter Miami CF with a 3-2 victory at Chase Stadium.
If Messi chooses to play for another team, he would have to leave the Barcelona squad by June 2020.
Despite many fans who firmly believe that Lionel Messi and Barcelona is a partnership that was made in heaven and will never end, there are certain media reports which hint that Lionel Messi, the Argentine superstar, could indeed draw curtains to his stint with Barcelona.
According to a report carried by Goal, Lionel Messi, has the right to end his own contract. His contract is technically set to expire in 2021. However, if Messi chooses to play for another team, he would have to leave the Barcelona squad by June 2020.
The report adds that although there are no such developments around Leo willing to leave the club, club president Josep Maria Bartomeu is getting a bit nervous about the delay in Lionel Messi signing a new contract with the Catalans.

Interestingly, a clause in the contract of the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, gives him the right to end his own contract with Barcelona. If he decides to end his stint with Barca, he has to use that clause before 30 June 2020.
This right is given to club stalwarts and previous veterans like Puyol, Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta were all given this liberty by the club for their invaluable contribution to Barcelona.
“Messi’s contract is up in two years but, given how he is playing, we will have him for many more years,” club President Bartomeu said as quoted by Goal when speaking about the contract.
“Leo is intelligent, he knows how to measure things. If he feels good, he will tell us.
“When he decides, we will renew his deal. Messi is the best player in history,” he added.
