West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday criticised the manner in which former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram was arrested by the CBI officials in connection with the INX Media case.
“Sometimes, the process is incorrect, I’m not talking about legality,” she told media.
“Chidambaram is a senior politician. He is a former finance minister and home minister. The way his matter has been handled is very depressing,” Mamata further said.

Chidamabaram was arrested late Wednesday night after CBI officials scaled the walls of his residence in Delhi.
Chidambaram was then driven to the CBI headquarters in a white car, with him seated in the middle and CBI personnel on either side.
The Congress leader will be produced at Special CBI Court, Rouse Avenue shortly.
The CBI is investigating alleged irregularities in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance granted to INX Media for receiving overseas funds to the tune of Rs 305 crore in 2007 when P Chidambaram was the Finance Minister.
It is alleged that his son Karti Chidambaram illegally took service charges for getting the FIPB clearance to the INX Media for receiving funds from abroad.
Meanwhile, Mamata’s remarks come on the heels of a similar situation earlier in February when a team of 40-odd CBI officers reached Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar’s residence in Kolkata to arrest him in connection with the Saradha chit fund scam.
Following this, a team of Kolkata Police officers rushed there to inquire if they had the documents required to question the CP.
After the CBI-police face-off, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee began a sit-in in front of the Metro Cinema to protest “insults” faced at the hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah. She accused both the BJP leaders of organising a “coup” on West Bengal.
