Barrackpore Police Commissioner Manoj Kumar Verma will be awarded Chief Minister’s Police Medal for Outstanding Service on Independence Day.

According to sources in the state home department, the efficient manner in which Mr Verma, who is an IPS officer of 1998 batch, managed to restore peace and normalcy at Bhatpara has been a major reason behind his name featuring in the recipient list released by the state Home & Hill Affairs department yesterday.

Following repeated violence in Bhatpara and Kankinara areas after declaration of the results of Lok Sabha polls, state government had appointed Mr Verma as commissioner on 20 June.
