The narrative of the film will explore events prior to the Avengers: Endgame, a prequel of sorts for one of the most loved Avengers. While Endgame ended on a fateful note for Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff–Black Widow— her standalone film will see the assassin in Budapest, where she will track down Pugh for a violent reunion. The details of the plot are still under wraps.

“I’m looking forward to exploring her as a fully realized woman in all of her many facets,” Johansson said on stage.

Oscar winner Rachel Weisz as Melina, Stranger Things star David Harbor as Alexei AKA The Red Guardian and The Handmaid’s Tale star O. T. Fagbenle as Mason will also feature in the film.

Black Widow will be directed by Cate Shortland and will release on May 1, 2020.
