Union Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved Rs 1,600 crore for Dibang Multipurpose Project to be built in Arunachal Pradesh, which is set to be India’s largest hydro-power project.
Briefing media persons in New Delhi after the cabinet committee meeting on Wednesday, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said the project is envisaged as a storage-based hydro-electric project with flood moderation as the key objective.
The project is estimated to cost Rs 28,080.35 crore to build, and once completed, will generate 2880MW power.

Cabinet also approved Rs 2,042 crore for doubling a railway line connecting Guwahati with New Bongaigaon. The project will be completed by 2022-23.
Aiming to do away with archaic laws, the committee, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, also approved a bill to scrap 58 redundant laws.
