One Tapas Mandal, a resident of Bijabari said that following heavy rainfall last night, the bamboo bridge between Daribhit and Bijbari was washed away by the Dolancha river. “We, the residents of Bijbari and four other villages, depend on the Daribhit Market for our daily needs.
We are now facing problems after the bridge was washed away. We are now using the border road to reach Daribhit Market, that is more than 2 km away. Moreover, BSF officials do not allow us to use the road all the time,” he said. On the other hand, heavy rainfall and a freak storm hit Islampur last night. The strong winds uprooted trees on the roads and toppled electricity poles at many places.
Many villages in Islampur were without power till this evening. Following the heavy rainfall, water started accumulating in many villages including Ramganj, Loknath colony and Sealtore in Islampur.
