India managed to score 314 runs against Bangladesh at the loss of 9 wickets in their stipulated quota of 50 overs at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Tuesday, courtesy a ton from Rohit Sharma.

Winning the toss, India skipper Virat Kohli elected to bat first.

India came all guns blazing with the likes of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul. The duo stitched 180 runs — highest opening wicket stand for India in a World Cup — before Rohit fell to Soumya Sarkar after a well-made 104. Rohit’s blitzkrieg was laced with 7 boundaries and 5 sixes.

Rohit’s companion Rahul also played a good knock of 77 before falling to Rubel Hossain. India were struggling in the middle overs but a fancy 48 from Rishabh Pant and 35 from former India skipper MS Dhoni ensured India reach a 300 plus target.

For Bangladesh, Mustafizur Rahman was the pick of the bowler as he ended with the figures of 5 for 59 in his quota of 10 overs.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma added another feather to his cap by becoming the 1st Indian and 2nd overall to score 4 centuries in a single edition of the World Cup. Before Rohit, Sourav Ganguly was the only Indian with 3 hundreds. Overall, Kumar Sangakkara of Sri Lanka shares the top spot with Rohit Sharma with 4 centuries.

Brief Scorecard: India 314 for 9 in 50 overs (Rohit Sharma 104, KL Rahul 77, Mustafizur Rahman 5/59) against  Bangladesh.
