Chief Secretary BK Agarwal reviewed the road safety scenario in the state with transport, police and Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) here.
He reviewed the status of checking of vehicles by the transport and police department and directed both police and transport departments to intensify challaning. He said the focus should be laid on offences relating to overloading, drunken driving, over speeding, dangerous driving, use of mobiles, not putting on seat belts and operating music systems while driving. He further directed to increase vigilance in rural areas as well.

He asked the HRTC to operationalise all 99 JNNURM buses which are non-operational right now and asked for a daily report in this regard.
He directed the transport department to identify new bus/taxi/maxi routes to provide efficient public transport to people and also handle the situation of overloading. He also directed to focus on rectification of black spots.
