Counting underway for Bengal’s 6 Assembly seats, Trinamool leads in three
Counting is underway for bypolls to six Assembly constituencies in West Bengal. As per the early trends, Trinamool Congress led three of the six Assembly constituencies.
The incident comes into light after a 22-year-old youth died in Jharkhand after being attacked by a mob for hours on suspicion of theft and forced to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’.
A madrasa teacher from West Bengal was allegedly beaten up and pushed off a train for not chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’, a Government Railway Police (GRP) officer said on Tuesday.
The incident reportedly occurred on June 19.
Hafeez Mohammed Sahrukh Haldar, a 26-year-old madrasa teacher from West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district said he was attacked by a group of people who got into the train and asked him to chant “Jai Shri Ram”.

He was accompanied by six other people who were also attacked while travelling from the district’s Canning to Hoogly via train last week.
“He said a group of men came to him and urged him to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’. They started beating him when he refused before pushing him off the moving train as it was entering the Park Circus station,” the GRP officer said.
Haldar sustained minor injuries over his eyes and hand.

In another incident earlier this month, a man in South 24 Parganas district’s Narendrapur was allegedly beaten up by some BJP supporters for not chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’.
Meanwhile, Union Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said that nobody can be forced to chant Lord Ram slogans.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has quite a few times lost her cool claiming that the BJP workers were deliberately raising Lord Ram slogans to create political unrest in the state.
In May, Mamata had chased a group of youth shouting ‘Jai Shri Ram’ in front of her convoy on way to Naihati in the North 24 Parganas district.
A furious Banerjee rushed out of her vehicle twice to confront the youth, while issuing a verbal warning to them. “Come here you BJP criminals. If you have guts come in front of me,” she said.
A similar incident had occurred on May 4 at Chandrakona in the West Midnapore district when the Trinamool Congress chief stepped out from her vehicle to confront people who were raising Lord Ram slogan in front of her convoy.
