A valiant presentation by Chile goalkeeper Christiane Endler guaranteed that the United States were just confined to three goals in their FIFA Women’s World Cup Group F encounter. Endler’s show ensured that the Americans do not repeat their performance against Thailand in which the scoreline read 13-0.

But the Americans were up to the mark in the test presented by Chile and overwhelmed the South American team without too much fuss. Carli Lloyd struck twice and Julie Ertz scored USA’s third goal to take their team’s goal tally to 16 from two matches in this mega event in France.

United States now joins Sweden in the knockout phase of the World Cup and both these teams will meet  on 21 June, Friday (IST), to compete for the top spot in Group F.

An astounding left-footed run of play in the 11th minute of the match by Lloyd gave USA the lead, while Ertz headed home the team’s second goal in the 35th minute of the match.

However, the star of the match was Endler who created a string of scarcely believable saves to restrict USA’s goal count and saved her team from facing an embarrassing defeat.

In particular, an amazing succession of triple saves by the Chilean goalie to outdo Lindsey Horan and Christen Press’ endeavours stole the spotlight even though the United States eventually won the match.

The winner of this Group will possibly play France, who are one of the prime contenders to lift the trophy, in the quarterfinal phase of the competition.
