Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has filed an FIR against a social media user who had threatened to rape his daughter.
The Gangs of Wasseypur director, who lodged a complaint at the Amboli police station, thanked Mumbai Police on Twitter for helping him.
He wrote: “Anyways I want to thank @MumbaiPolice @MahaCyber1 @Brijeshbsingh for helping me with filing the FIR . Thank you so much for the amazing support and starting the process.Thank you @Dev_Fadnavis and thank you @narendramodi Sir. As a father I am more secure now.”
On May 23, as the results of the Lok Sabha 2019 elections were announced, Kashyap congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and shared a screenshot of a comment posted by one of PM Modi’s supporters on his teenage daughter Aaliya’s Instagram page.
The username that had “chowkidar” prefix to his name threatened to rape his daughter among posting other profanities.
Kashyap wrote on Twitter: “Dear @narendramodi sir. Congratulations on your victory and thank you for the message of inclusiveness. Sir please also tell us how do we deal with these followers of yours who celebrate your victory by threatening my daughter with messages like this for me being your dissenter.”
But Kashyap’s post did not go well with actor Suchitra Krishnamoorthi as she did not find any just reason for mentioning Modi in his tweet.
“Dear Anurag Kashyap, I have been openly pro-Modi and yet have often received rape threats for my daughter and even myself when controversy has erupted. I have done what a right thinking citizen must do… complained to Mumbai Police and Cyber Crime cell. Not Tag PM. What’s your point,” Suchitra wrote.
She further added, “& @anuragkashyap72 u are experienced enuff to shut the hatemongers on ur own without creating more hate. ?? & @MumbaiPolice is super helpful in this regard. Try them – i have.”
Responding to the Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa actress’ tweet, Kashyap tweeted: “Point is – one statement from him that he does not endorse hatemongers will shut them up.”
Suchitra then cheered the director and wished that he and his daughter were safe.
Kashyap, who had responded to the actor earlier, added, “The irony with social media is when I say vote for your constituent so one can take there problems to them, they say Vote for the PM. When you tag PM to the the tweet they say it’s not his responsibility go to the constituent.” He then shared the FIR news on social media.
