Two Delhi BJP MPs on Saturday admitted that they were a little worried about winning their Lok Sabha seats as they were contesting against a Congress heavyweight and seasoned Aam Aadmi Party leader.
All the BJP MPs from Delhi gathered at the Delhi BJP party office on Pandit Pant Marg to celebrate their victory in the general election. Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari and singer turned-politician Hans Raj Hans, who recently joined BJP and contested from North West Delhi, admitted that they were not entirely confident of their victory.
“I was a little worried about my victory from North East Delhi as Congress heavyweight Sheila Dikshit was contesting against me,” said Tiwari. She is not only a three-time chief minister of Delhi but also a stalwart Congress leader, he said.
“I was surprised when I came to know that I have defeated her by a margin of more than three lakh votes,” Tiwari added.
“I was scared to face the three-time chief minister and Congress veteran. But I did not divulge my tension during the course of campaigning,” Tiwari said.
Hans Raj Hans also lost hope of winning the election when he heard reports that BJP may lose one of the seven Lok sabha seats in Delhi. “I thought it was obviously me,” the singer said who contested against AAP leader Guggan Singh and Rajesh Lilothia of Congress.
All the BJP MPs from Delhi vowed to oust Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the upcoming Assembly election. The BJP leaders instructed party workers to ensure victory in at least 65 of the 70 assembly seats in the national capital. The polls are slated to be held next February.
