Former chief minister and PDP leader, Mehbooba Mufti, on Saturday, urged the centre and terrorists to observe a ceasefire during the upcoming holy month of Ramadan.
Mehbooba, in a media interaction in Srinagar, urged the centre to also cease crackdowns and search operations during Ramadan this year so that people are not subjected to “harassment.”

She alleged that the centre has converted Kashmir into a “battlefield” where encounters were taking place almost every day.
Last year’s ceasefire helped in providing a huge sense of relief to the people during the month of fasting.
She hoped that the electoral compulsions will be put aside and the security forces suspend encounters and cordon and search operations. She also appealed to the terrorists to strictly observe ceasefire so that the people do not suffer.
Mehbooba accused the Modi government of trying to break the economic backbone of people of Kashmir by suspending the cross-LoC trade with Pakistan occupied Jammu and Kashmir (POJK) and also ordering twice a week restrictions on the movement of civilian traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar highway.
She alleged that hundreds of “innocent” youth have been detained in the Pulwama and Shopian districts of the Anantnag Lok Sabha seat that will go to polls on 6 May.
