Apoorva Shukla Tiwari, who was arrested for killing her husband, Rohit Shekhar Tiwari, was on Friday sent to 14-day judicial custody by a Delhi court.
The Crime Branch brought Apoorva before the Saket court today seeking judicial custody of the accused.
Apoorva was arrested the Tiwari’s residence in South Delhi on 24 April by the Delhi Police. She confessed to killing her husband, Rohit Shekhar Tiwari, who was the son of late UP and Uttarakhand CM ND Tiwari.
“Investigation has proved it beyond doubt that it is her (Apoorva, Rohit’s wife) work and she has confessed to it. Till now no evidence has been found regarding someone else’s involvement,” Rajiv Ranjan, Delhi Additional CP (Crime), told reporters at a press conference on Wednesday.
The police said that Apoorva cited unhappy marriage as the reason for killing her husband.
She had a heated argument with her husband on the night of 15-16 April following which she killed him.
According to the police, the entire incident unfolded in just 90 minutes.
The police said that Apoorva, who is a Supreme Court lawyer, also destroyed evidences and initially tried to mislead the Crime Branch team.
The Delhi Crime Branch had questioned Apoorva on 21 April, five days after her husband’s death.
A resident of South Delhi’s Defence Colony, Rohit died on 16 April. His mother, who was admitted to Max Hospital in Saket in South Delhi, had received a call from home about her son being “unwell and bleeding from the nose”.
An ambulance had subsequently brought Rohit to the same hospital where he was declared brought dead.
A murder case was registered by the police after an autopsy report last week stated that the 40-year-old died of “asphyxia”, indicating that he was strangulated and smothered.
Police said that medical reports revealed that Rohit was drunk on the night of the incident.
