Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday said that the “country is in danger” from the duo of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah while hinting that he is open to weave an alliance with the Congress for the Lok Sabha elections to ensure the BJP’s defeat.

Speaking to reporters after addressing a press conference called by opposition parties to demand a return to ballot papers, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief said, “The country is in danger. To save the country from Modi Ji and Amit Shah Ji’s ‘jodi’. We are ready to do whatever is needed. Our efforts will continue till the end.”

Earlier, at the press conference, Kejriwal had stated his intentions of an alliance – which he has been demanding for a long time.

Kapil Sibal and Abhishek Manu Singhvi, the Congress leaders who attended the press conference, were, however, tight-lipped.

Dodging the question, Sibal said that only Kejriwal “knows better” about the alliance.

Singhvi said, “You know the stand of Congress. The alliance was almost done in Delhi but linking it with other states is not right.”

Previous talks of an alliance between the AAP and the Congress derailed after they failed to reach an agreement over seat-sharing in Delhi and Haryana.

Congress’ in-charge for Delhi PC Chacko had said on Friday that the Congress would go it alone in Delhi since the AAP had taken an “impractical stand”.

But Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said on Saturday that his party was ready to form an alliance with the Congress in Delhi, Haryana and Chandigarh but it would not agree for a tie-up just in the national capital.
