The Omung Kumar directorial starring Vivek Oberoi in the titular role will be released with some “minor” modifications
The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has granted the much talked about PM Narendra Modi biopic, which chronicles the life of the current prime minister, an “unrestricted” (U) certificate for release. The Omung Kumar directorial titled PM Narendra Modi and starring Vivek Oberoi in the titular role will release on April 11, 2019.
While no cuts have been proposed, reports said the director had been asked to make “minor” modifications before the film’s release.
Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the news on his Twitter account.

“We knew it will happen. Finally it’s out,” Omung Kumar told IANS. In a statement, Kumar said: “The team and I were convinced of what we have made. It’s a piece of cinema and not propaganda and now the Censor Board has validated what we have been saying all along.”
“Very thankful and excited for the April 11. I hope the audiences enjoy this film, which for me, has been my toughest film till date,” he added.
The movie showcases the trajectory of PM Modi’s life, from his formative years with the RSS, his chief ministership in Gujarat and how he led his party to a majority victory in 2014 and thereby becoming the prime minister of the country.
The CBFC certificate for PM Narendra Modi came on the same day as the Supreme Court dismissed a plea seeking a hold on the film’s release.
A bench comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, Justice Deepak Gupta and Justice Sanjiv Khanna said it was not entertaining the petition as the film had not yet been certified by the Censor Board.
The court further said it was for the Election Commission to decide whether the film violated the Model Code of Conduct.
Previously, the Election Commission had cleared the release of the biopic stating that the film had not violated the model code of conduct.
However, later on Friday it decided to consult its legal experts before taking a final decision on whether to restrain the release of PM Narendra Modi biopic till the Lok Sabha polls were over, later came to the conclusion that it was for the CBFC to take the final call on the issue.
