Tej Pratap Yadav, the former Bihar Health Minister and eldest son of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Yadav, abruptly announced his resignation from the post of president of the party’s student wing.
The 30-year-old Tej Pratap, who is the brother of former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav, posted a tweet on Thursday afternoon announcing his decision.
The tweet also contained a veiled attack on his critics.
“I am stepping down from the post of RJD’s student wing president,” read the tweet which was posted in Hindi.
“Naadaan hain vo log jo mujhe naadaan samjhte hain. Kaun kitna pani main hai, sabki hai khabar mujhe (Ignorant are those who think that I am naive. I know what everyone is up to),” he said in his cryptic tweet.
His decision comes amid reports of a strain the relations between the two brothers.
Ever since Lalu Yadav was convicted in the Fodder Scam case, Tejashwi has been taking major decisions in the party. His supporters see Tejashwi as the de facto stand-in leader of the party.
According to reports, Tej Pratap wanted two of his followers to be fielded from two Lok Sabha constituencies in the state. He was supposed to make an announcement in this regard but a scheduled RJD press briefing was cancelled.
Tej Pratap wants to field his protégés Angesh Singh from Sheohar district constituency and Chandraprakash from Jehanabad Lok Sabha seat.
In the past, Lalu’s elder son also had differences with his mother Rabri Devi and brother Tejashwi over his decision to divorce his wife Aishwarya.
